Abstract:
It has long been established in fluid mechanics that viscosity is not the only source of dissipation of energy in a fluid. I will present sufficient conditions for solutions of the inviscid Primitive equations to conserve energy. These equations model large-scale dynamics in the oceans and atmosphere, where the vertical scale is much smaller compared to the horizontal scales. This is joint work with Simon Markfelder and Edriss S. Titi.
