Abstract:

The presentation will explore different approaches to modelling the spatial patterns of urban growth in Europe. Models include spatial-statistical models driven by changes in economic development and population growth, as well as models based on residential choice behaviour. The choice modelling applies agent-based modelling methods that are empirically grounded with statistical data on household composition and location preferences. The modelling will be presented within the context of the implications for spatial planning policy and the impact of urban growth.
