On 27 January 2020, the government announced additional funding for the mathematical sciences, to be delivered by EPSRC, part of UK Research and Innovation. In July 2022, the CMS commissioned Dr Joanna Jordan (freelance Mathematical Sciences Knowledge Exchange) to carry out analysis of the impact of the additional £124m that was committed following this announcement. The analysis identified 3 strands - Impact on the mathematical sciences infrastructure, Impact of the small grants scheme and Impact on the people pipeline.

Funding uplift for the mathematical sciences infrastructure highlights how the funding helped to augment activity at the three Mathematical Sciences Institutes - the Isaac Newton Institute (INI), the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) and the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research (HIMR),  The funding has helped the Gateway engage with other initiatives that may not have been possible otherwise. This has helped support our position as a national provider of KE in the mathematical sciences, working with those cited in the reports.
