The Turing Trust believes that education is vital to economic development and to the creation of peaceful, well-functioning societies. The Trust aims to promote education through the use of information technology. The Trust provides these resources to the most disadvantaged communities of sub-Saharan Africa through the use of extensive local partnerships. School textbooks are rarely found in many classrooms and information is scarce. Information technology can transform this position. Computers can act like libraries for the schools, hosting a wealth of information far beyond what would be possible if forced to rely on textbooks. At the same time, the Trust hopes to help develop IT skills that are quickly becoming an essential component of any modern education.
